Snow leopards range over 2 million square kilometers of mountain in Cardinal Asia, including the formidable Himalayas. Experts currently estimate as few as 3,500 exist in the wild, fewer than the world''s tiger population. As an "umbrella" or keystone species, snowfall leopard conservation has far-reaching importance as it leads to the protection of hundreds of other plants and animals sharing the cat''s ecosystem. The International Snow Leopard Trust is the oldest and largest organization focused solely on saving this important species. The Trust works nationally and internationally to enhance awareness about endangered species, and to empower people living inside snow leopard range to become stewards of their environment. To this finish, the Trust conducts educational outreach, scientific research, and community-based conservation.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Our partner communities in Communist china, India, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, and Pakistan - and the snow leopard of class!

Geographic areas served: five snow leopard range countries

The Trust also helps communities establish livestock insurance programs, where herders tin pay a premium to insure their goats and sheep against predation by snow leopards, bears, and wolves - making the financial affect of losing animals much easier to conduct, and leading to increased tolerance towards these predators. Through its Ecosystem Health projection, the Trust also helps establish livestock vaccination programs in snow leopard habitat; lowering livestock mortality rates and helping herders further secure their livelihood.

For every bit long as I can remember, snowfall leopards take ever been my favorite brute. I was so happy to have establish SLT. I make sure to order their calendar every year, and I always dear the photos they provide with their emails.
Equally regards the piece of work they exercise, giving people opportunity to work and earn without hunting the leopards, researching leopard habits, helping debate in the locals' livestock so as to not be endangered by the leopards, etc. is all fantastic. I completely support it all.

I donate to many conservation groups, just for many years the Snow Leopard Trust has been i of my major beneficiaries because I believe they do good work. They sponsor basic research on snow leopard ecology, including radio-tracking and monitoring wild populations in the remote mountains of Asia. They piece of work with local people to reduce killings of snow leopards, to support local incomes and wildlife rangers. They protected prime snow leopard habitat from a mining threat in Mongolia, and that land is now a national reserve. They sponsor international conferences and efforts to protect snow leopards.

I became a member of Snow Leopard Trust in 2009 when my family unit and I lived in the Seattle expanse. This organization'southward passion and commitment are so evident through their frequent photos, videos, updates, and simply being out in that location in the public to brainwash united states of america and inspire usa to care and take action. I would come across their berth at every ecology issue that I would nourish. Thank you so very much for being one of my heroes! Cheers very much for your tremendous work and dedication to snowfall leopards!

The Snow Leopard Trust appears to be achieving outstanding results in reaching out to native peoples in the far-flung, remote areas of Central Asia, which are the last strongholds of this magnificent, reclusive cat.

Ecological and conservation NGOs are a relatively new concept to many of these areas, yet the Snow Leopard Trust has accomplished inspiring success. I actively read their newsletters and updates, and have been impressed, that despite the variety of the peoples, the immense distances and sometimes almost inaccesible territories, the Snowfall Leopards Trust has built relationships, formed working alliances, built trust and confidence, and is educating people on the value of biological diversity, and later on, is reducing the loss of these creatures due to human activity.

Well-nigh sensible, is the program of reimbursement to local farmers and herders for the loss of livestock, and their attempt to promote other economic alternatives for local herder villages. I accept gladly volunteered to pay for the loss of a sheep or caprine animal if it means the preservation of one of these cats.

Almost impressive, it appears this organization achieves their results with a relatively small, dedicated group of people, both hither in the West, and on-site in Asia, without a great bargain of overhead or top-heavy apparatus. I am pleased to recommend, without qualification, Snow Leopard Trust, as one of the outstanding ecological NGOs that is making a difference. Without them, these magnificant cats would exist even more imperiled.

Had great experiences with SNT. Transparent and communicative.

I became aware of this endangered specie some years agone and was intrigued past how little was known nigh the life of such an iconic animal. Through the Snow Leopard Trust I have learnt so much about their lives. Just, probably the the almost satisfying thing is the development of projects in the many inhospital places they are establish and the efforts to alter the thinking of the various inhabitants to preserve the specie instead of killing them, despite the fact that Snow Leopards impale their livestock in order to survive. I am sure this has become a hard thing to change as their livestock is their main source of income with piffling other options in the remote areas in which many of these people live.

Nonetheless, the Snow Leopard Trust has been doing remarkable things over the years in producing initiatives to help these people to look at other additional means of support. In addition, the educational programmes that are gear up, provide the younger generation with the noesis to hopefully create a lasting existance for these wonderful animals.

Without the donations and support of the many people and organisations involved in providing a platform for their future, the existance of the Snow Leopard would exist even bleaker. It's always a corking pleasance to read the regular newsletters and acquire more nearly the latest initiatives and see the latest pictures of these wonderful animals in their habitat.

Snow leopards are truly remarkable! These breathtaking cats not but live at thirteen,000 feet, just they chase at that peak likewise. Calculation to the challenge, the terrain does not level off to become flat where they make their home; therefore, they accept to chase and bring-down prey on jagged mountains in an area equivalent to being the ceiling of the earth. Due to an increase in human population in this area, people accept moved into the country previously only home to snow leopards and their prey.
